PONY RIDES FOR A PURPOSE was meant to be a one time fundraiser, held January 26, 2013. The King's Bridge Farm family wanted to pay a special tribute to our beloved student, Jessica Adrienne Rekos, and raise money for the memorial fund that her parents established after her tragic death at Sandy Hook Elementary School. On the day we honored her, the temperature with wind chill hovered around 0*, but over 600 people from infants to grandparents came out of their toasty homes into the bitter cold. As one attendee said, "You didn't feel cold because there was so much love in the air!" The 2nd Company Governor's Horse Guard (www.thehorseguard.org) in Newtown, CT, one of the last and one of the oldest still active mounted cavalry units in the United States, generously offered their facilities, many able hands and a few horses, too, once we realized the response far exceeded what our small farm could accommodate. Our event was such a success that with the permission of Jessica's parents, we decided to turn PONY RIDES FOR A PURPOSE into PONY RIDES FOR JESSICA REKOS. PONY RIDES FOR JESSICA REKOS is now our annual fundraising event that is held every May around the time of Jessica's birthday, May 10.
